Delhi and its adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) woke up to heavy rainfall early Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting continued showers throughout the day. The IMD’s bulletin warned of light to moderate intensity rain accompanied by thunderstorms over the national capital and its surrounding areas.
Areas likely to experience rainfall include Deoband, Nazibabad, Muzaffarnagar, and Meerut, among others, according to the IMD’s predictions. Additionally, parts of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh are also expected to receive rainfall over the coming days.
Videos shared by news agency ANI captured scenes of several areas in Delhi drenched by the downpour. The rain comes as a relief for the region, as it is expected to help improve the air quality, which has been lingering in the ‘poor’ category, with an overall air quality index of 231.
The IMD forecasts a minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius and a maximum temperature of around 28 degrees Celsius for Delhi on Tuesday. Earlier on Monday, the weather department had predicted a generally cloudy sky with light rain and thunderstorms at a few places in the national capital.
Beyond Delhi, the IMD predicts rainfall in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, western Uttar Pradesh, and other regions from February 19 to February 21. Isolated thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning are also expected in various parts of these states during the mentioned period.
The rain forecast brings hope for alleviating concerns over water scarcity and agricultural productivity in the region. Additionally, it serves as a reminder for residents to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during adverse weather conditions.
