The implementation comes as the Air Quality Index (AQI) fluctuated between 'very poor' and 'severe' categories, registering AQI figures of 397 and 409 respectively.

In a significant decision, the Supreme Court of India has clarified that its 2021 ruling, which allowed the use of only green firecrackers, will now apply to the entire country, not just the Delhi-NCR region. The court emphasized that it is the responsibility of all citizens to protect the environment and curb air and noise pollution. The ruling comes during a hearing on a petition regarding the use of firecrackers containing polluting chemicals.
