Terrorists in Kathua Village Seek Water, Launch Deadly Attack; One Gunman Killed

In a shocking turn of events in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, terrorists went door-to-door in a village asking for water before launching a violent attack. The incident unfolded when alert villagers denied them water, sensing something amiss. The ensuing encounter with security forces resulted in the death of one terrorist, while the search for the second assailant continued into the morning. Tragically, a paramilitary soldier lost his life during the operation.

According to Anand Jain, Additional Director General of Police for Jammu zone, the terrorists’ attempt to procure water from several houses raised suspicion among the villagers. As they were met with closed doors and wary reactions, the terrorists resorted to firing randomly and even targeted a passing villager.

The swift response of security forces led to a cordon being established in the area, leading to a confrontation with the terrorists. During the encounter, one of the attackers was killed while trying to hurl a grenade at the police. Efforts are now focused on clearing houses one by one to locate the remaining terrorist.

Omkar Nath, a civilian injured in the attack, along with his wife, has been swiftly evacuated to a hospital for treatment. Authorities have clarified that reports of additional casualties are untrue.

Simultaneously, a separate encounter unfolded in Doda, where terrorists targeted an army base late at night. This attack resulted in injuries to five soldiers and a special police officer. The ongoing incidents underscore the persistent threat of terrorism in the region, with Jammu experiencing a surge in such violent activities recently.

These developments follow closely on the heels of a bus attack in Reasi, where pilgrims were targeted, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. Officials have attributed these attacks to the directives of Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Abu Hamza, highlighting the continued challenges posed by terrorist outfits in the area.
