The operation, launched by a joint team of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) and led to the recovery of war-like stores, as confirmed by the army.
According to an army statement, the operation commenced based on intelligence reports indicating a potential infiltration attempt. Troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged the terrorists, which resulted in an exchange of gunfire. “On October 4, 2024, based on intelligence about an infiltration attempt, a joint operation was initiated at Gugaldhar, Kupwara,” the army stated. “Alert troops spotted suspicious activity, leading to an exchange of fire. The operation is still in progress.”
As the operation unfolds, search efforts in the area are ongoing, and security forces remain vigilant. The army has emphasized that the operation’s primary goal is to ensure the safety and security of the region.
In a separate incident on Friday, two army personnel sustained injuries due to a landmine blast near the LoC in Kupwara during a routine patrol. The blast occurred in the Googaldara area of Trehgam, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by security forces in the region.
