Nine Workers Dead, One Injured After Wall Collapse at Construction Site in Gujarat

In a tragic incident in Gujarat’s Mehsana district, nine workers lost their lives, and one was injured following a wall collapse at a private construction site. The disaster occurred around 1:45 PM on Saturday near Jasalpur village in Kadi taluka, as laborers were working on a project to dig a pit for an underground tank.

According to local authorities, the wall collapse triggered a landslide of loose soil that buried multiple workers beneath it. Rescue operations commenced swiftly, with teams successfully recovering nine bodies from the debris. Reports indicate that around 10 workers were trapped, and while most were unfortunately found deceased, a 19-year-old boy was rescued alive and transported to a nearby medical facility.

Dr. Hasrat Jasmine, the District Development Officer (DDO) of Mehsana, confirmed the details of the incident, stating, “This is a private company which was under construction. The incident happened around 1:45 PM. As per our information, 9-10 people were trapped, out of which 6 bodies have been recovered. A 19-year-old boy has been rescued alive, and as per his statement, 8-9 people were working here. 2-3 people are still trapped. We pray to God that we rescue them alive.”

The incident site is located approximately 37 kilometers from the Mehsana district headquarters. Local police inspector Prahaladsinh Vaghela noted that laborers were working in precarious conditions when the wall gave way, leading to the unfortunate fatalities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the incident, offering condolences to the families of the victims. He stated, “The accident caused by the wall collapse in Mehsana, Gujarat is extremely sad. My deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this… Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured.
