Residents of Delhi can expect a welcome respite from the scorching heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain and thunderstorms for Saturday, April 19. This change in weather comes as the intense heatwave affecting northwestern India begins to subside.
According to IMD predictions, Delhi’s sky will remain partly cloudy during the day, gradually turning generally cloudy by evening. The city is likely to witness light rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and dust storms, accompanied by gusty winds. These conditions are expected to continue until April 20, with clearer skies forecasted from April 21 onwards.
The maximum temperature in Delhi on Saturday is predicted to hover around 38°C, while the minimum temperature could drop to approximately 26°C, offering a noticeable cooling trend compared to the past few days.
Rainfall in Northern and Northeastern States
Elsewhere in the country, the IMD has issued warnings for heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh on April 18 and 19. These areas may also experience snowfall or hailstorms due to a western disturbance moving across the Western Himalayan region. Moderate rain is expected to persist in these regions through April 20.
Northeastern states including Gangetic West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also forecasted to receive heavy rainfall on April 18.
Relief Expected in Heatwave-Hit Rajasthan
Rajasthan continues to endure extreme temperatures, but the IMD has indicated that relief is on the horizon. The heatwave is likely to abate by April 20. However, until then, the state will continue to experience warm nights, particularly in isolated areas. Dust storms may also occur in the western parts of the state due to strong winds.
Hot and Humid Conditions in Other Regions
Meanwhile, regions of Maharashtra and Gujarat are expected to remain hot and humid over the next few days. Central Indian states like Madhya Pradesh may see a rise in temperatures during the next five days, with the IMD urging residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
As the weather takes a turn, the IMD continues to monitor developments and issue timely updates for the safety and comfort of citizens across the country.
