Delhi experienced a dip in temperature on Wednesday as the minimum temperature dropped to 11.8°C, 3.8°C lower than the previous day, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Meanwhile, the city’s air quality index (AQI) remained in the ‘moderate’ category due to strong winds sweeping across the national capital.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded an AQI of 108 at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, falling under the ‘moderate’ category. The previous day’s 24-hour average AQI, recorded at 4 p.m., stood at 148. CPCB classifies AQI levels between 101 and 200 as ‘moderate,’ while levels above 200 indicate worsening air quality.
Weather and Air Quality Forecast
According to the Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS) for Delhi, air quality is expected to remain in the ‘moderate’ category from Wednesday to Friday. However, experts have warned that the AQI could fluctuate between ‘moderate’ and ‘poor’ over the following six days.
IMD officials reported that Delhi’s minimum temperature was 1.6°C below normal, compared to 15.6°C recorded on Tuesday. The city also experienced strong surface winds ranging between 25-35 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 40 kmph.
The maximum temperature is also expected to drop slightly, with IMD forecasting a high of around 25°C, compared to 27.5°C recorded the previous day.
Outlook for the Coming Days
With mainly clear skies expected on Wednesday, residents can anticipate breezy conditions. The strong winds may help prevent a significant deterioration in air quality, but experts advise caution as pollution levels could rise in the coming days.
