Panagarh, Kalyani Ghoshpara, and Joychandi Pahar Among 103 Stations Inaugurated Nationwide
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday virtually inaugurated three redeveloped railway stations in West Bengal under the Centre’s ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, marking a significant step in modernizing the country’s rail infrastructure.
The stations — Panagarh, Kalyani Ghoshpara, and Joychandi Pahar — were among 103 Amrit Bharat railway stations inaugurated by the Prime Minister via video conferencing from Bikaner, Rajasthan.
According to officials, the three West Bengal stations have undergone a comprehensive transformation aimed at enhancing passenger amenities and station aesthetics. The Panagarh and Kalyani Ghoshpara stations fall under the Eastern Railway, while Joychandi Pahar is under the South Eastern Railway — both headquartered in Kolkata.
The redevelopment of these stations includes upgraded platforms, better waiting areas, modernized ticket counters, improved sanitation facilities, digital signages, and eco-friendly designs, among other enhancements. The effort is part of the government’s vision to improve passenger experience across Indian Railways.
Officials also revealed that 100 stations in West Bengal have been selected for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, showcasing the state’s crucial role in the nationwide modernization drive.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is focused on the long-term development of railway stations across India, aiming to transform them into modern transport hubs with world-class amenities. The scheme also emphasizes the integration of local culture and heritage in station design.
The virtual inauguration by PM Modi is part of a broader national initiative to upgrade railway infrastructure and services, with a focus on passenger comfort, safety, and connectivity.v
