Security Forces, Terrorists Clash in J&K’s Kathua; Ongoing Operation to Neutralize Threat

Security forces and terrorists are engaged in an intense firefight in the Bani area of Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter began following a search operation launched by security personnel based on intelligence reports of terrorist activity in the region.

The joint operation by the police and security forces led to an exchange of gunfire after contact was established with the terrorists. The area has been cordoned off, and efforts to neutralize the threat are ongoing. According to a brief statement from the Indian Army, “A few rounds have been fired from both sides.”

This encounter in Kathua comes on the heels of a successful operation conducted the previous day in Baramulla district, where security forces killed three terrorists in the Chak Tapper Kreeri area. Brigadier Sanjay Kannoth, Commander of the Army’s 10 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, described the Baramulla operation as a “significant success” ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the region.

Brig Kannoth explained that intelligence reports had alerted security forces to the movement of terrorists in the area. Upon engaging, the terrorists, who were hiding in a disused building, opened fire. Security forces returned fire and neutralized the terrorists after an intense firefight that continued through the night.
