"Tragic Landslide Claims Lives of Three Women Labourers in Odisha's Koraput"

In a devastating incident in Odisha’s Koraput district, three women labourers lost their lives after being buried under a landslide while working at a murram quarry near the Kolab dam. The tragedy occurred as ten labourers from Salmanguda village were engaged in digging soil at Matikhala Murram hill when a portion of land unexpectedly caved in, trapping the victims.

Authorities swiftly responded to the emergency, dispatching a National Disaster Response Force team and fire brigade to the scene. Despite their efforts, the rescue operation could only save seven of the trapped labourers, while three others—identified as Purni Jani, Sanmati Jani, and Champa Badnayak—succumbed to the landslide.

Koraput MLA Raghuram Machha arrived at the site to oversee the rescue efforts, reflecting the gravity of the situation. Police promptly initiated an investigation, registering a case related to the incident. The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the hazards faced by workers in such environments and underscores the need for stringent safety measures in industrial operations across the region.
