Union Home Minister Amit Shah took charge of a crucial high-level meeting on Sunday to evaluate the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and discuss the arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra. The meeting, which comes in the wake of recent terrorist attacks in the region, aimed to address concerns about security measures and ensure the safety of residents and pilgrims.
Key officials present at the meeting included National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Home Secretary, Army Chief Manoj Pande, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Army Chief designate Lt General Upendra Dwivedi, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, BSF DG Nitin Agarwal, and CRPF DG Anish Dayal, among others from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Union Territory.
The gathering was a follow-up to a previous high-level meeting chaired by Amit Shah in the national capital to deliberate on the situation in J&K. Another comprehensive meeting has been scheduled for June 16 to continue addressing security concerns and operational strategies.
Recent terrorist attacks in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda have led to casualties among pilgrims, security personnel, and civilians, underscoring the urgency of bolstering security measures. The discussions focused on enhancing readiness to counter terrorist threats and ensuring the safety of residents and visitors, particularly during the Amarnath Yatra.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a top-level meeting to review the security situation in J&K, emphasizing the need for robust counter-terrorism efforts. The coordinated efforts between the central government, security forces, and local administration are aimed at safeguarding the region’s peace and stability.
The ongoing assessments and strategic measures reflect the government’s commitment to combat terrorism effectively and maintain law and order in Jammu and Kashmir, especially during sensitive periods such as the Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage.
