The incident, occurring on Monday evening, claimed the life of Mohammad Razak, a dedicated employee of the social welfare department. According to police reports, Mohammad Razak was shot outside his residence in Shahdra Sharief, succumbing to his injuries despite medical efforts. The terrorists also attempted to abduct his brother, a territorial army soldier, but he managed to escape unharmed. The recovery of M4 rifle bullets at the scene has intensified the search operation jointly conducted by the army and police to apprehend the attackers.
Tragically, this targeted assault mirrors a dark chapter from the past, as Razak’s father fell victim to terrorism in the same area over two decades ago. Such recurring acts of violence underscore the persistent threat faced by civilians and security personnel in the region.

Just days earlier, a migrant worker from Bihar was fatally shot in Anantnag, following another attack on a resident of Dehradun in Herpora. Last year’s surge in terrorist activities in Rajouri and Poonch prompted strategic reinforcements by the army to safeguard the region. The upcoming polls in the Anantnag constituency, scheduled for May 7, further accentuate the need for robust security measures to ensure the safety of residents and electoral processes.
