P Chandra Sekhar, the candidate representing TDP for the Guntur Lok Sabha seat, has made headlines with his staggering declaration of assets worth ₹5,785 crore in his election affidavit. This revelation positions him as the wealthiest contestant in the ongoing electoral race, drawing attention to the intersection of wealth, politics, and public service.
Chandra Sekhar’s individual assets amount to ₹2,448.72 crore, while his wife Sriratna Koneru possesses assets worth ₹2,343.78 crore. Additionally, their children contribute nearly ₹1,000 crore to the family’s total wealth, as per the affidavit filed by him.
This declaration surpasses previous records, with Nakul Nath, son of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, previously holding the title of the richest contestant with assets valued at around ₹717 crore in Phase-I of the Lok Sabha polls.
While Chandra Sekhar’s family boasts substantial assets, they also carry a liability of ₹1,138 crore to JP Morgan Chase Bank of USA in the form of Line of Credit, as disclosed in the affidavit.
Chandra Sekhar’s journey from Burripalem village in Andhra Pradesh to becoming a physician teacher at Johns Hopkins University – Sinai Hospital and founding UWorld, an online learning platform, is highlighted. His academic achievements, including a rank of 27th among 60,000 students in the EAMCET medical entrance examination, reflect his dedication and success.
With an interest in public service, Chandra Sekhar has been actively involved in TDP’s NRI wing since 2010, supporting various welfare programs. His desire to contest the Lok Sabha polls dates back to 2014, reflecting a long-standing commitment to political engagement.
Chandra Sekhar’s financial portfolio includes investments and shares in US-based firms, along with luxury possessions like Rolls Royce Ghost, Mercedes Benz, and Tesla cars in the USA.
Chandra Sekhar is set to compete against YSR Congress Party’s K Venkata Rosaiah in the upcoming elections, adding a layer of political rivalry to his already noteworthy profile.
C The declaration of Chandra Sekhar’s vast wealth not only sparks public interest but also raises questions about the role of affluence in electoral politics and governance. As voters evaluate candidates’ backgrounds and agendas, the intersection of wealth and public service remains a significant aspect of democratic processes.
