PM Modi Criticizes Scrapping of Electoral Bonds Scheme: "Everyone Will Regret It"

In a recent interview with ANI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his disappointment over the Supreme Court’s decision to scrap the electoral bonds scheme, calling it a decision that “everyone will regret when there is honest reflection.” He stated that the move has “completely pushed the country towards black money.”

The electoral bonds scheme, launched by the government to curb the use of black money in elections, faced criticism and legal challenges. The Supreme Court’s ruling in February declared the scheme unconstitutional, citing violations of the right to information and equality.

PM Modi defended the scheme, emphasizing that it was introduced with the intention of bringing transparency and reducing black money in election campaigns. He refuted allegations that his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was the primary beneficiary of the scheme, pointing out that 63% of the funds from electoral bonds went to parties other than the BJP.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of electoral transparency and accountability, noting that the scheme provided a trail of donations and expenditures, allowing for scrutiny and oversight.

In addition to discussing the electoral bonds issue, PM Modi addressed various other topics during the interview, including opposition attacks, allegations of using central agencies against rivals, and criticism of the Congress party’s manifesto.

He also welcomed potential investment in India by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, emphasizing the importance of localization and ensuring that products reflect the essence of Indian culture and values.

The interview comes ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with PM Modi engaging in a wide-ranging discussion on key political and economic issues facing the country.
