Kerala Police Register 54 Cases for Spreading Communal Content on Social Media Following Recent Blast

In the wake of a recent explosion at a Christian prayer meeting near Kalamassery in Kochi, Kerala Police have registered 54 cases against individuals for disseminating communally instigative content through social media. The highest number of cases, 26 in total, were reported in Malappuram district, followed by 15 in Ernakulam and five in Thiruvananthapuram. Additionally, Thrissur City and Kottayam each reported two cases, while Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Palakkad, and Kozhikode Rural had one case each.

Kerala Police revealed that they have identified numerous fake profiles that have been utilized to share posts inciting communal hatred. In response, they have made requests to social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp to assist in identifying the IP addresses associated with these fake profiles. The state’s cyber cell is operating round the clock to uncover and address such incendiary online activities.

The recent blast at the Christian prayer meeting in Kochi has prompted heightened vigilance against the spread of communal content and hate speech on social media platforms. The police’s efforts to crack down on such behavior demonstrate the commitment to maintaining peace and harmony in the region. As the investigations and legal actions progress, it remains crucial to curb the misuse of social media for the propagation of divisive and incendiary content.
