A private school in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha has come under scrutiny after a five-year-old student was expelled for allegedly bringing non-vegetarian food to class. The incident, which occurred on Teachers’ Day, gained widespread attention after a video of a heated argument between the student’s mother and the school principal went viral on social media.
The video, which has not been independently verified by NDTV, shows the principal of Hilton Convent School accusing the young boy of attempting to convert others to Islam by encouraging them to eat non-vegetarian food. The principal further alleged that the child expressed a desire to destroy Hindu temples, sparking outrage from the student’s mother.
In the video, the principal can be heard telling the mother, “Your child says that he wants to convert everyone to Islam by making them eat non-vegetarian food.” The mother, visibly upset, responded that her son had been complaining for months about his classmates engaging in “Hindu-Muslim” discussions.
The principal also claimed that the child was not allowed to sit in class that day and declared, “I don’t want to teach him anymore. We have expelled him.” The video, recorded in what appears to be the principal’s office, shows the child standing next to his mother during the exchange.
Following the video’s circulation, Amroha’s Muslim Committee called for action, demanding the principal’s arrest and the suspension of the school’s affiliation. In response, Amroha’s Basic Education Officer initiated an inquiry, forming a team of principals from three government schools to investigate the matter. The team has been asked to submit its findings within three days.
The controversy has ignited debates over religious sensitivities, discrimination, and the role of educators in handling such incidents. The outcome of the investigation will likely shape further actions in the case.
