Ajeet Bharti, a YouTuber based in Noida, has been served a notice by Karnataka Police regarding a case filed against him in Bengaluru. The case is related to Bharti’s recent comments about Rahul Gandhi, the former president of the Congress party.
The incident unfolded when three individuals, claiming to be from Karnataka Police, visited Bharti’s residence in Noida to deliver the notice. Bharti promptly informed local police officials about the visit, leading to the intervention of Uttar Pradesh Police who took the individuals from Bengaluru into custody.
The notice requires Bharti to appear at Bengaluru’s High Grounds police station within seven days of receiving it. The case stems from a complaint filed by BK Bopanna, the legal cell secretary of the Congress party in Karnataka, at the High Grounds police station.
Bopanna’s complaint alleges that Bharti made statements in a recent video suggesting that Rahul Gandhi intended to rebuild the Babri Masjid in place of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. These remarks, according to Bopanna, constitute hate speech and have the potential to disrupt public peace and harmony.
Consequently, Bharti has been booked under sections 153A and 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code, which deal with promoting enmity between different groups based on religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, and making statements that create or promote enmity, hatred, or ill-will between classes.
