Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has landed in Gorakhpur for a three-day visit, sparking anticipation of a potential meeting with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, who has been present in the city since Wednesday for a four-day RSS volunteers’ camp. However, as of now, there has been no confirmed interaction between the two prominent figures.
While rumors swirled about a possible rendezvous, Bhagwat remained at the camp venue while Adityanath engaged in other activities. One notable event during the chief minister’s visit was his release of an Asiatic lion, ‘Bharat,’ and a lioness named ‘Gauri’ into their enclosure at the Shaheed Ashfaq Ullah Khan Prani Udyan. Additionally, he held discussions with local officials during his time in Gorakhpur.
Sources within the Sangh indicated that there was no official announcement of a scheduled meeting between Adityanath and Bhagwat during this visit.
The timing of Adityanath’s trip to Gorakhpur is noteworthy, given the recent Lok Sabha elections where the BJP faced challenges in Uttar Pradesh, winning only 33 seats out of 80. This marked a decline from their previous performances in the state. The defeat of the BJP in the Faizabad seat, covering Ayodhya, added to the party’s setbacks.
Furthermore, unlike past terms, the BJP had to rely on support from allies within the NDA coalition to form the government, despite winning 240 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent swearing-in ceremony for his third consecutive term underscored the evolving political landscape in Uttar Pradesh and at the national level.
