West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has directed all staff members of Raj Bhavan in Kolkata to ignore any communications from the state police regarding the recent sexual harassment complaint filed against him. This directive, shared via the official Raj Bhavan handle, aims to maintain decorum and avoid interference in the ongoing investigation.
The directive explicitly prohibits both permanent and temporary staff members from making any statements, whether online, offline, in person, over the phone, or through other means, regarding the allegations and the police investigation.
Following the sexual harassment complaint filed by a temporary staffer, the Kolkata Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the matter. The SIT has requested CCTV footage from Raj Bhavan and is actively pursuing leads and gathering evidence related to the case.
Governor Bose’s notification referenced Article 361 (2) and (3) of the Constitution, which provides immunity to governors from state police investigations during their term in office. Despite this, the Kolkata Police has continued its investigation, seeking witness statements and relevant evidence.
The allegations against Governor Bose emerged just before a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kolkata, where he is staying at Raj Bhavan. The accuser, claiming to be a temporary staff member, approached the police post at the Governor’s House to report the incident.
Governor Bose has denied the accusations and released an audio message alleging political motives behind the controversy. He cautioned Raj Bhavan staff to remain vigilant against potential infiltrators with malicious intent.
As the investigation unfolds, Governor Bose’s directive to Raj Bhavan staff reflects the complex legal and political dynamics surrounding the sexual harassment allegations. The ongoing scrutiny underscores the importance of thorough and impartial investigations in such sensitive cases.
