YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader V Vijaysai Reddy has resigned from his position as a member of the Rajya Sabha, despite having over three and a half years remaining in his six-year term. Reddy met with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday to submit his resignation, which was accepted by the Vice President, who also serves as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
In a statement to reporters, Reddy explained that his decision was driven by personal reasons. “I have submitted my resignation to the Vice President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, and he has accepted the same,” he confirmed after the meeting.
The resignation has come as a surprise, as Reddy had significant time left in his term. While the specific reasons behind his resignation were not disclosed, it marks a significant move for the senior YSRCP leader. His departure from the upper house of Parliament leaves a vacancy that may prompt discussions about his future political plans.
Vijaysai Reddy has been an influential figure in the YSR Congress Party and was a prominent supporter of party leader and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. His decision to step down from the Rajya Sabha adds to the ongoing developments within the party.
The resignation also raises questions about the political landscape in Andhra Pradesh and the strategic direction of the YSRCP as it moves forward.
