In a tragic incident early Sunday morning, a man fell into a 40-foot-deep borewell at a Delhi Jal Board water treatment plant in the Keshopur Mandi area of west Delhi. Despite extensive rescue efforts, the victim, whose identity remains unknown, was found dead upon being retrieved from the borewell.
The Delhi Fire Service received the distress call around 1 am on Sunday, prompting an immediate response with five fire tenders rushing to the scene. Minister Atishi expressed deep sadness over the outcome, confirming the fatality in a tweet and extending condolences to the victim’s family. The deceased, believed to be around 30 years old, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Delhi Jal Board officials, along with local authorities and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), worked tirelessly to coordinate rescue efforts. The NDRF team, under the leadership of inspector-in-charge Veer Pratap Singh, initiated operations to extricate the victim from the borewell.
DCP (West) Vichitra Veer provided insights into the response efforts, indicating that the local police and fire brigade teams promptly mobilized upon receiving the PCR call. Despite their swift actions, the tragic outcome underscores the challenges faced in such rescue operations.
This unfortunate incident echoes a similar tragedy from last month in Rajasthan’s Gangapur city, where a 24-year-old woman fell into an open borewell. Despite concerted efforts by administrative officials and rescue teams, the woman, identified as Mona Bai, could not be saved, highlighting the grave risks associated with such accidents.
