Top Lashkar Commander Among Three Terrorists Killed in J&K Encounters

In a significant counter-terrorism operation, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir neutralized three terrorists, including a senior commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), during separate encounters on Saturday. The Indian Army, acting on specific intelligence, had been monitoring the activities of the terror group for over a month.

The operation took place in the general area of Halkan Gali in Anantnag, where the security forces identified suspicious movement around 11:45 AM. Upon challenging the terrorists, who opened fire, the forces retaliated effectively, resulting in the neutralization of both terrorists at the scene. A substantial cache of arms and ammunition was recovered following the encounter.

A defense spokesperson highlighted the vital support and cooperation from the local communities in Anantnag and Kulgam, which played a crucial role in the success of the operation. The spokesperson commended the collective commitment of the people to restore peace in the region, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in counter-terrorism efforts.

Among the three terrorists killed, Usman, the senior-most Pakistani commander of the LeT, was identified as a key figure involved in several violent incidents in the valley. His previous actions included the targeted attack on Rifleman Hilal Ahmad Bhat of the 162 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) on October 8, along with other attacks in the Bijbiara and Shangus areas. Notably, Usman was implicated in the assassination of Inspector Masroor Wani, who was killed last October while playing cricket in Eidgah.

The neutralization of Usman represents a significant setback for the LeT’s operations in Jammu and Kashmir. An army officer stated, “The elimination of this terrorist group will significantly impact terror groups’ capabilities in the area.” The Indian Army remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region, underscoring its determination to protect citizens from the threats posed by terrorism.

In a related note, Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, visited four paramilitary personnel who sustained injuries during the Khanyar gunfight, assuring them of full support during their recovery.

The recent operations reflect the ongoing efforts of security forces to combat terrorism and enhance regional security, with an emphasis on community cooperation as a critical element in these endeavors.
