10 Maoists Killed in Sukma Encounter, Weapons Recovered

In a significant blow to Maoist insurgency, security forces in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh killed at least 10 Maoists during an encounter in the dense jungles on Friday, officials confirmed.

The joint operation involved the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The encounter occurred in the Korajuguda, Dantewada, Nagaram, and Bhandarpadar forest areas following credible intelligence about Maoist activity, said Inspector General of Police (IG), Bastar range, Sunderaj P.

“We have recovered several weapons, including AK-47 rifles, INSAS rifles, and SLR rifles. The identities of the deceased Maoists are yet to be confirmed,” IG Sunderaj P stated.

The operation is ongoing, with security teams continuing their search in the jungle for additional information and recoveries.

Recent Maoist Activity and Countermeasures

The Sukma operation comes just a day after security forces neutralized another Maoist during an exchange of fire in Odisha’s Malakangiri district, close to the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border. The coordinated efforts by security forces highlight the intensified campaign against Maoist insurgents in the region.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai recently met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to discuss the state’s progress in combating Naxalism. The meeting emphasized the government’s commitment to eradicating Maoist activities by 2026.

“In the past 11 months, nearly 200 Maoists have been eliminated, and 600-700 have surrendered,” CM Sai said, adding that efforts to ensure peace and stability in Naxal-affected areas are being prioritized.

The government’s anti-Maoist strategy includes boosting development in affected regions while simultaneously ramping up security operations. This dual approach aims to fulfill the national goal of making India a Naxal-free country by March 2026.

Further updates on the Sukma encounter are awaited as search operations continue.
