Anurag Yadav, one of the individuals apprehended in connection with the alleged NEET paper leak, disclosed to authorities that he had been preparing for the medical entrance test in Kota. He asserted that his uncle Sikandar, also detained, assured him that the exam was “sorted” if he returned to Samastipur. Anurag stated that he received questions and answers the night before the exam, which were subsequently found in the actual paper.
An analysis of Anurag’s scorecard from the National Testing Agency reveals a peculiar disparity in his subject scores. While he achieved 85.8 percentile in Physics and 51 percentile in Biology, his Chemistry percentile is a mere 5. This discrepancy suggests a lack of preparation time for Chemistry, given his admission about receiving the questions a day prior to the exam.
Anurag’s overall percentile score stands at 54.84, with an all-India rank of 10,51,525 and an OBC category rank of 4,67,824.
In a related development, Sikandar Yadavendu informed the police that he facilitated contact between four students, including Anurag, and the individuals involved in providing the question papers. He disclosed that Amit Anand and Nitish Kumar, also detained, demanded ₹30-32 lakh per student for the papers, but Sikandar exaggerated the amount to ₹40 lakh each out of greed.
While Anurag has been arrested, the other three have been interrogated. Notably, all three are from the OBC category. One of them scored 300 out of 720 in the test, with percentiles of 87.8 in Biology and notably lower scores in Physics and Chemistry.
The NEET results, declared on June 4, have raised concerns due to numerous irregularities. The discovery of 67 students scoring a perfect 720, with six from the same centre in Haryana, has led to nationwide protests, demanding a retest amidst fears of unfair advantages and compromised integrity in the exam process.
