The Delhi High Court has made a significant decision regarding Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia’s bail plea in cases related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy for 2021-22. Despite granting him permission to meet his wife under custody, the court has denied bail to Sisodia, citing various reasons including concerns about tampering with evidence and influencing witnesses.
The high court’s decision to deny bail to Manish Sisodia comes after the capital’s Rouse Avenue court extended his judicial custody until May 31. The court emphasized that there was no delay in the prosecution’s supply of documents or in the trial court’s framing of charges, dismissing Sisodia’s contention regarding any such delay.
The high court pointed out that Sisodia was allegedly involved in the destruction of electronic evidence and holds significant influence as a powerful leader of the AAP. Concerns were raised about the possibility of him influencing material witnesses, leading the court to conclude that there was merit in denying bail.
During the hearing, the court highlighted allegations of corruption against Sisodia, stating that he orchestrated a scheme to send pre-drafted emails under the guise of public comments. This, according to the court, constituted corruption as it involved dissemination of false information to frame policy decisions.
Despite the denial of bail, the court allowed Sisodia to meet his wife every week under custody, considering her acute health condition due to multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disorder affecting the central nervous system.
