Kannada actor Ranya Rao, who was arrested in connection with a gold smuggling case, had traveled to Dubai 27 times within a year, raising suspicions that led to her arrest. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended the 33-year-old actor at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru after she was caught smuggling 14.2 kg of gold bars worth Rs 14.56 crore. This is considered one of the largest gold seizures at the Bengaluru airport in recent times.

Bengaluru: Actor Ranya Rao, known for her debut in the 2014 Kannada film Maanikya, was intercepted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Kempegowda International Airport while allegedly attempting to smuggle gold bars worth ₹12.56 crore. The 33-year-old was reportedly just a step away from clearing airport security when a DRI team, acting on specific intelligence, stopped her and recovered 14.2 kg of gold ingeniously concealed on her person.
