Amazon Pulls Plug on Citadel Spin-Offs ‘Honey Bunny’ and ‘Diana’ as Priyanka Chopra-Led Series Gears Up for 2026 Comeback

Date:

Amazon Prime Video has pulled the plug on two international spin-offs of its ambitious ‘Citadel’ universe—India’s ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ and Italy’s ‘Citadel: Diana’. Despite the shake-up, the main series, starring Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden, is confirmed to return in 2026.

Amazon’s plans for building a sprawling global spy universe around the Russo Brothers-produced Citadel seem to be getting a reset. As per a report by Deadline, both Citadel: Honey Bunny, directed by Raj & DK and starring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Varun Dhawan, and the Italian offshoot Citadel: Diana have been cancelled after just one season.

“While these successful and widely enjoyed international chapters will not continue as individual series, Season 2 of Citadel will be our most exhilarating yet,” said Vernon Sanders, Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios. “With high-stakes storytelling, new additions to our amazing cast and bold, cinematic ambition, the new season will deepen the emotional journeys of Nadia, Mason, and Orlick against the relentless force that is Manticore.”

According to Sanders, storylines and characters introduced in Honey Bunny and Diana will be woven into the narrative of the main Citadel series, which is now set for a global premiere in Q2 of 2026.

Citadel: Honey Bunny had released in December 2024 and featured Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu as the parents of Nadia Sinh, the character played by Priyanka Chopra in the main series. Although critics praised the Indian adaptation as an improvement over the original, it was still seen as one of the weaker entries in creators Raj & DK’s otherwise lauded body of work.

The decision to scale back the Citadel universe comes in the wake of a major leadership change at Amazon. Jennifer Salke, the former head of Amazon’s MGM Studios, who had greenlit the Citadel franchise and several other high-budget projects, exited the company recently. Her departure has been followed by a wave of cancellations and project re-evaluations.

Adding to the uncertainty, unconfirmed rumours suggest that the much-anticipated Tomb Raider series starring Sophie Turner may also have been shelved, though Amazon has not issued an official statement regarding its fate.

While fans of the spin-offs may be disappointed, Amazon’s commitment to reviving and expanding the flagship Citadel series indicates the studio still sees potential in the espionage saga—albeit with a more focused and possibly reimagined approach.
