In a startling revelation, a security breach was discovered within the National Security Agency (NSA) cell of Assam Dibrugarh Central Jail, where Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh and members of the Waris Punjab De group are incarcerated. Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gyanendra Pratap Singh, disclosed that unauthorized gadgets, including a smartphone with SIM, a spy-cam pen, pen drives, a Bluetooth device, and others, were found inside the cell.
The discovery was made following inputs received from reliable sources regarding unauthorized activities within the NSA cell on Saturday morning. Subsequently, jail staff conducted a search operation, leading to the seizure of various unauthorized items. The source and method of introduction of these items into the cell are currently under investigation.
DGP Singh emphasized the seriousness of the breach and stated that lawful actions are being pursued, including the installation of additional CCTV cameras in the surrounding areas of the NSA Block to bolster security measures and prevent future occurrences.
Amritpal Singh, the leader of the separatist group Waris Punjab De, had been transferred to Dibrugarh Central Jail after being arrested by Punjab Police on April 23, 2023, from Moga district. Singh and his associates, including his uncle, were detained under the National Security Act (NSA).
The discovery of unauthorized gadgets within the jail raises concerns about the security protocols in place and underscores the need for stringent measures to prevent such breaches in the future. Authorities are actively investigating the source of these items and are committed to taking necessary steps to ensure the integrity and security of the correctional facility.
