
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Maharashtra’s financial capital, Mumbai, today to inaugurate several key infrastructure and development projects, marking a significant milestone for the city and the state. A highlight of his visit was the inauguration of the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Mumbai Metro Line 3, the city’s first fully underground metro system.
The Prime Minister’s event-filled schedule also included presiding over the Bhoomipujan (groundbreaking ceremony) of multiple projects aimed at boosting urban development, agriculture, and transportation across the state.
Inauguration of Metro Line 3
The long-awaited Mumbai Metro Line 3, a 12.69-kilometer section between Aarey JVLR and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), was partially opened for public use today. Prime Minister Modi flagged off the new metro line at BKC station and took a ride from BKC to Santacruz, interacting with Laadki Bahin beneficiaries, students, and workers onboard.
The Prime Minister also launched the MetroConnect3 mobile app, designed to enhance the commuter experience by providing modern features such as real-time tracking, ticket bookings, and updates. In addition, a coffee table book chronicling the journey of the underground metro’s development was unveiled.
Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation’s Managing Director, Ashwini Bhide, remarked, “This milestone ushers in a new era of seamless travel, transforming our city’s landscape and making daily commutes easier and more efficient.”
Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Initiatives
Reaffirming his commitment to supporting farmers, Prime Minister Modi disbursed the 18th instalment of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi, releasing approximately ₹20,000 crore to around 9.4 crore farmers across the country. This instalment brings the total funds disbursed under the PM-KISAN scheme to about ₹3.45 lakh crore since its inception.
The Prime Minister also launched the 5th instalment of the NaMo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana, releasing approximately ₹2,000 crore to benefit farmers in Maharashtra. Additionally, he dedicated more than 7,500 projects under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), valued at over ₹1,920 crore, which include essential infrastructure such as warehouses, processing units, cold storage, and post-harvest management facilities.

- 9,200 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) with a combined turnover of ₹1,300 crore.
- The Unified Genomic Chip for cattle and the indigenous sex-sorted semen technology to boost livestock management.
- Five solar parks with a total capacity of 19 MW under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana – 2.0.
- The foundation stone for the Elevated Eastern Freeway Extension from Chheda Nagar to Anand Nagar, Thane, a project worth ₹3,310 crore, enhancing connectivity from South Mumbai to Thane.
Urban Infrastructure Projects
The Prime Minister also initiated Phase 1 of the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) project, worth around ₹2,550 crore. The project will include constructing arterial roads, bridges, flyovers, underpasses, and integrated utility infrastructure.
Additionally, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for a new administrative building for Thane Municipal Corporation, to be constructed at a cost of ₹700 crore. The high-rise structure will centralize key municipal offices, offering more convenience for Thane’s residents.
