Mumbai: Mumbai Police have heightened security across the city following a terror threat alert from central agencies. The police have increased surveillance at various religious and crowded places as a precautionary measure.
According to sources, security arrangements have been significantly ramped up at major religious sites, including the famous Siddhivinayak Temple, and popular crowded areas. The city’s Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) have been directed to pay special attention to their respective zones to ensure safety.
Sada Sarvankar, chairman of the Siddhivinayak temple trust, confirmed that the temple has been instructed to remain vigilant. “We have been asked by Mumbai Police to increase the security of the temple. We have been asked to pay attention to all the security arrangements,” he told NDTV.
In addition, Mumbai Police have conducted several “mock drills” as part of their security preparation. One such drill was held at Crawford Market, a bustling area known for housing religious sites and large crowds. Officials clarified that these drills are also part of the routine security protocol ahead of the upcoming festive season, which includes Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Diwali.
Mumbai recently celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi, a major 10-day festival, and is now preparing for another wave of festivities. Given the terror threat, authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
Security agencies remain on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents as the city gears up for a series of large public gatherings during the festive season.
