Modi Raises Concerns About Naveen Patnaik’s Health; Odisha CM Calls It Rumour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has raised concerns about Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s health, suggesting a possible conspiracy behind his deteriorating condition. Speaking at a public meeting in Baripada, Modi assured that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in the state, a special committee will be formed to investigate Patnaik’s health issues.

Modi’s comments came amid viral videos on social media showing Patnaik’s shivering hands. He questioned if a lobby, which enjoys power behind the scenes in Odisha, could be involved in a conspiracy against Patnaik. “The well-wishers and those close to Naveen babu are worried over his health, and they believe there might be a conspiracy behind it,” Modi said.

In response, Naveen Patnaik rebutted Modi’s claims, calling them hurtful and baseless. “The PM could have called me if he was concerned about my health. I assure him and everyone that I am in perfect health and have been actively campaigning,” Patnaik stated. He suggested forming a committee to investigate those spreading rumors about his health instead.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also commented on the matter, sharing a video that showed Patnaik’s aide, VK Pandian, hiding the CM’s shivering hand during a public address. Sarma alleged that Pandian misuses Patnaik’s digital signature and controls his movements, calling for an investigation once BJP forms the government.

Addressing another meeting in Kendrapara, Modi said that Odisha wants to rid itself of those looting it and keeping its culture hostage. He emphasized the need for a “double-engine” government in the state, promising a significant transformation and accountability for those who have misused power.

Modi accused the BJD government of various wrongdoings, including corruption, land grabbing from tribals, and mishandling the funds provided by the Modi government. He also questioned the BJD’s management of the Ratna Bhandar keys of the Jagannath temple, promising transparency and accountability if BJP wins.

As the election campaign concluded on May 30, political experts in Odisha noted that Modi’s comments on Patnaik’s health might impact voter perceptions. However, they also pointed out that anti-incumbency and concerns over VK Pandian’s influence could have a more significant effect on the BJD’s electoral prospects.
