A search operation has been launched by the Mangaluru police after a local businessman, Mumthaz Ali, went missing early Sunday morning. Ali, who is the brother of Janata Dal (Secular) Member of Legislative Council (MLC) BM Farooq and former Congress MLA Mohiuddin Bava, left his residence around 3 AM. His abandoned and damaged vehicle was later found near the Kulur Bridge at approximately 5 AM, raising concerns that he may have jumped from the bridge.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the missing businessman. “We received information that businessman Mumthaz Ali’s vehicle was found near Kulur Bridge this morning. Preliminary investigation suggests that he left his home in his car at 3 AM, drove around the city, and stopped near the bridge around 5 AM. The car has some accidental damage,” stated CP Agarwal.
Authorities, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Coast Guard, have been deployed to search the river to determine if Ali may have jumped from the bridge. The police are also investigating any other potential developments that could explain his disappearance.
Ali’s daughter reported his absence to the local police after failing to locate him. As the search intensifies, police are in contact with the family and continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
The incident has sparked concern within the local community, with family members and friends awaiting further updates on the case. The search and rescue operation remains ongoing, with authorities hoping to uncover new leads soon.
