Indian Navy Successfully Tests Indigenous Anti-Ship Missile in Collaborative DRDO Effort

India marks a significant technological achievement with the successful second trial of its indigenous Naval Anti-Ship Missile, showcasing its prowess in advanced missile technology. The recent test, a collaborative effort between the Indian Navy and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), validates the nation’s progress in achieving self-reliance in niche missile technology.

The Naval Anti-Ship Missile Short Range (NASM-SR) underwent its second test, following its inaugural trial in May 2022, when it was launched from a Seaking helicopter of the Indian Navy. The successful launch, executed at the integrated test range (ITR) in Chandipur off the Odisha coast, highlighted the missile’s advanced capabilities.

The NASM-SR integrates cutting-edge technologies, boasting an indigenous launcher tailored for helicopter deployment and a sophisticated guidance system comprising state-of-the-art navigation and integrated avionics.

In a tweet shared by the Indian Navy on X (formerly Twitter), the video footage depicted the momentous missile launch from the Sea King 42B helicopter, showcasing the precision and efficacy of the test.

Additionally, the Indian Navy disclosed preparations for the inaugural trial of a Long Range Anti-Ship Missile, another DRDO-developed advancement, with an extended range of 500 km, surpassing that of the renowned BrahMos missile.

Speaking of BrahMos, an Indo-Russian cruise missile, the report acknowledged its expanded range from 350 to 400 km, with the original range standing at 290 km. This evolution underscores India’s commitment to enhancing its missile capabilities.

Earlier in March, the Indian Navy successfully executed the firing of the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) from INS Visakhapatnam. This achievement solidified its ability to intercept Anti-Ship Missiles, highlighting the collaborative efforts between DRDO and the Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) in developing advanced defense systems, manufactured at Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).

The successive milestones achieved in missile development and successful trials underscore India’s commitment to technological advancements in defense, positioning the nation as a formidable force in the domain of advanced missile systems.
