“Indian Army and Police Begin Operation in Baramulla After Terrorists Open Fire in Jammu and Kashmir”

Date:

In a significant security operation, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint operation in Baramulla on Thursday, following reports of suspicious terrorist activity. The operation, which is still ongoing, came after the security forces observed movements linked to militants in the region. When challenged, the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire, prompting the forces to retaliate effectively, the Army confirmed.

According to the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, the operation was based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists in Panipura, Sopore, located in the Baramulla district. The operation has intensified as security forces work to neutralize the threat. The Army posted on social media, “On 07 Nov 24, based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists, a joint operation launched by the #IndianArmy & @JmuKmrPolice in Panipura, Sopore, #Baramulla. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. Own troops effectively retaliated. Operation is in progress.”

This operation is part of a growing trend of escalating terrorist activity in Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks. On Wednesday, security forces in Kupwara district neutralized one terrorist during a separate encounter. The operation began in the Margi area of Lolab, where a cordon and search operation was initiated based on intelligence inputs about terrorist presence. During the operation, an AK rifle, two hand grenades, and four AK rifle magazines were recovered.

In another major development on Wednesday, security forces successfully eliminated a terrorist in Bandipora. Earlier in the week, a joint operation involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF was launched in the Chuntawadi Kaitsan area of Bandipora, where an encounter broke out with militants.

On November 3, a grenade attack in Srinagar injured 12 people, including one woman, at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) and weekly market, highlighting the growing concern over civilian safety in the region.

On November 2, the security forces successfully killed two terrorists during an encounter in Anantnag district, which had been triggered by an anti-terrorist operation in the Halkan Gali area. The incident followed an attack on October 29, where three terrorists were neutralized after an assault on an Army convoy in Akhnoor, Jammu.

Further escalating tensions, on October 20, terrorists attacked a tunnel construction site on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in Ganderbal district, killing a doctor and six construction workers.

Authorities continue to work diligently to curb the rising violence, with security forces remaining vigilant in countering terrorist activities in the region. The ongoing operations in Baramulla are a reflection of the heightened security measures being implemented to prevent further terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
