Jaipur Police on Monday arrested self-styled spiritual figure Abhay Singh, popularly known as ‘IIT Baba,’ for possessing ganja at a hotel in the city. The police claimed they received information suggesting that Singh had posted about “committing suicide” on social media, prompting them to take action. However, he was released on bail after officers determined that the quantity of ganja in his possession was small.
Police Action and Arrest
According to Rajendra Godara, Station House Officer (SHO) of Shiprapath Police Station, the police acted on information that Singh was staying at a hotel and might attempt suicide.
“When we reached there, he admitted to consuming ganja and still having it in his possession. He said he might have posted something on social media while unconscious. Possession of ganja is a crime under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, so we arrested him. However, as the quantity was small, we interrogated him and then released him on a bail bond. If needed, he will be summoned again for questioning,” the SHO told ANI.
Singh briefly spoke to reporters during his arrest, stating, “I have nothing to say about it as of now. It’s my birthday, and I want to be happy today.”
Recent Controversy: Alleged Assault on TV Debate
Abhay Singh was recently involved in another controversy after he claimed he was assaulted during a news debate on a private channel in Noida. On Friday, Singh alleged that a group of “saffron-clad people” entered the newsroom, misbehaved with him, and attacked him with sticks.
Following the incident, he staged a protest outside the Sector 126 police outpost but later withdrew it after police intervention. Sector 126 SHO Bhupendra Singh confirmed that Singh ultimately chose not to file a formal complaint.
Videos circulating on social media show Singh engaged in a debate when a group of sadhus entered the studio, leading to a heated argument. As tensions escalated, he attempted to leave, but the exact reason for the altercation remains unclear.
This latest incident adds to the growing list of controversies surrounding ‘IIT Baba,’ who gained public attention during the Maha Kumbh. His arrest and subsequent release have sparked discussions online, with many debating the circumstances of his detention.
