In a tragic turn of events, Surya Jay, the wife of an IAS officer, died by suicide on Sunday after returning to her husband’s home in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The 45-year-old woman had eloped with a gangster nine months ago and was reportedly involved in a high-profile child abduction case.
Surya Jay, who had been missing for several months, reappeared at her husband Ranjeet Kumar’s residence on Saturday. Kumar, a secretary at the Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission, had instructed the domestic staff to deny her entry. The couple, who had been separated since 2023 and were in the process of finalizing their divorce, had a strained relationship.
According to police sources, Surya Jay may have returned to her husband’s home to evade arrest by Tamil Nadu police in connection with the kidnapping of a 14-year-old boy in Madurai. The kidnapping case, linked to a monetary dispute, saw her and her rumored gangster boyfriend, Maharaja High Court, and his aide Senthil Kumar, demanding a ransom of ₹2 crore. The boy was eventually rescued, and a manhunt was launched for those involved, including Surya.
