“Delhi: Two Held for Falsifying Documents to Acquire Voter ID”

Date:

In a significant development, Delhi Police have arrested two individuals for forging documents to obtain voter identification cards. The accused have been identified as 35-year-old Juber, a cab driver from Ramesh Enclave, and 30-year-old Nadeem, a resident of Kirari Suleman Nagar, according to officials.

The case came to light on December 30, when the Electoral Registration Officer for Assembly Constituency-09 filed a complaint at the Prem Nagar Police Station. The complaint revealed that five people had allegedly submitted applications for voter registration using forged documents. Upon investigating the documents, it was found that one of the applications, submitted by Juber, contained falsified details.

A senior police officer confirmed that the case was promptly registered, and a team was formed to investigate the matter. During the investigation, police found that while the voter registration applications of three individuals were legitimate, Juber’s application was fraudulent.

“The tampering was linked to the residential address on his Aadhar card, which had been altered before his application for a voter ID card. Although the Aadhar number was genuine, the address had been intentionally changed to secure a voter ID card,” said the officer.

Further inquiry revealed that Juber had handed over his original Aadhar document to Nadeem, who operates a Jan Sewa Kendra in Mangolpuri. Nadeem, who assists individuals in applying for various documents such as Aadhar cards and voter IDs, used his position to alter Juber’s details and submit a fraudulent application for a voter ID.

Both accused individuals were arrested, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether more people or networks are involved in similar fraudulent activities. The police have also seized a hard disk from Nadeem’s shop to gather additional evidence.

This case highlights the growing issue of document forgery and fraudulent applications, raising concerns about the integrity of voter registration processes. The police are urging the public to report any suspicious activities to prevent further occurrences.

Authorities have also emphasized the need for stricter measures to prevent such incidents and safeguard the accuracy of voter data.
