Four months after a woman went missing, her body was discovered near the Kanpur District Magistrate’s bungalow in a high-security area. The discovery followed the confession of the accused, Vimal Soni, a gym trainer from Kanpur’s Green Park area, who admitted to burying the woman’s body after allegedly murdering her.
The woman, who was identified as the wife of a businessman, was reported missing on June 24. DCP (North Kanpur) Shravan Kumar Singh revealed that the investigation indicated she had been dead for some time. According to police reports, the woman had been distressed over the finalization of Soni’s wedding. On the day of the incident, she returned to the gym after a 20-day absence, where she and Soni went to his car to discuss their situation.
During the conversation, an argument erupted, leading Soni to punch her in the neck, which caused her to faint. Singh stated that Soni then took the fatal step of murdering her. The DCP noted that tracing Soni was particularly challenging as he did not use a mobile phone. Investigative teams were dispatched to various locations, including Pune, Agra, and Punjab, to locate him.
Soni eventually led police to the location of the body after they questioned him about the incident. Authorities are still trying to determine if Soni took any jewelry that the woman was wearing at the time of her death.
Legal proceedings are underway at the Kotwali district police station as investigators pursue all potential angles in the case. This tragic incident has raised concerns regarding safety and the alarming rise in violent crimes in the region.
