Delhi’s AQI Sees Slight Improvement, Drops to ‘Poor’ Category; Minimum Temperature at 10.4°C

The air quality in Delhi witnessed a slight improvement on Wednesday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 302 at 9 am, falling into the 'very poor' category. This marked an improvement from Tuesday’s AQI reading of 343 at the same time, driven by strong winds aiding the dispersion of pollutants.

Delhi is grappling with a worsening air pollution crisis as the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) continues to stay in the ‘severe’ category for the fourth consecutive day. On Saturday, the AQI in parts of the city was recorded at 406, signaling a toxic environment that poses severe health risks to residents. In response to this ongoing crisis, the Delhi government has taken drastic steps, including imposing bans on certain vehicle types, staggering office timings, and suspending construction activities.

The worsening air quality in Ludhiana is impacting schoolchildren, with an increasing number of students, especially younger ones, experiencing symptoms like breathing difficulties, eye irritation, and skin discomfort due to heavy smog. Although there hasn't been a significant increase in the number of children visiting the local hospital for checkups, the smog is worsening symptoms for those with asthma and triggering new allergies, according to Dr. Renu Bansal, a pediatrician at Ludhiana’s civil hospital.

The air quality in Delhi remained in the "very poor" category on Saturday, marking the ninth consecutive day of hazardous smog levels following Diwali. According to the latest data from the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 358 at 9 am, indicating a “very poor” level of pollution. This comes amidst a thick blanket of smog engulfing areas like Kartavya Path and other parts of the city.
