The water level in the Pandoh dam in Mandi district is rising steadily following recent thunderstorms, prompting authorities to warn locals and tourists to avoid the banks of the River Beas. Officials have cautioned that the spill gates of the dam may be opened at any time as a precautionary measure to manage the increasing water volume.
The district experienced heavy thunderstorms on Monday, causing damage in several areas. The skies over Mandi and Shimla remained overcast with dark clouds, signaling more unpredictable weather ahead. Meanwhile, the safety of the Pandoh dam is being closely monitored by the authorities to prevent any untoward incidents.
In other areas of Himachal Pradesh, flash floods have caused major disruption, especially in the Udaipur sub-division of Lahaul and Spiti district, where the Sansari-Killar-Tindi-Thirot road has been blocked. Police officials have urged the public to avoid traveling on this route until the obstruction caused by rains is cleared.
The local meteorological department has issued an orange warning for isolated places in Una and Shimla districts, predicting light to moderate rains accompanied by lightning, hail, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kilometers per hour. Additionally, a yellow warning has been issued for Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu, Hamirpur, Solan, and Sirmaur districts, forecasting light to moderate rainfall with lightning and winds at speeds of 30-40 kilometers per hour.
Authorities continue to advise residents and visitors to remain vigilant, stay indoors during severe weather, and avoid venturing near riverbanks or flood-prone areas until conditions stabilize.
