Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a crucial high-level meeting with top defence officials on Sunday, following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. The meeting, held at his residence, brought together key figures from the Indian defence establishment, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the Indian Armed Forces.
The timing of the meeting was significant, coming a day after Pakistan’s violation of the ceasefire, which had been brokered with the help of US President Donald Trump. While both India and Pakistan had agreed to halt military action, tensions remained high along the borders, particularly in areas like Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, and Barmer in Rajasthan, where Pakistani drones and missiles were intercepted.
Despite the ceasefire agreement, Pakistan had violated it, prompting a strong response from India. Pakistan’s breach involved drone and missile incursions into Indian territory, which led to blackouts being reimposed in several border areas. India retaliated swiftly, and the situation was brought under control. In response to these violations, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri issued a stern warning, emphasizing that India had taken “very, very serious notice” of Pakistan’s actions.
India’s firm stance against terrorism remained at the core of its message. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reiterated India’s unwavering position, stressing that it would continue to tackle terrorism in all its forms. India’s armed forces have been placed on high alert, with strict orders to handle any future border violations with force.
Meanwhile, Pakistan, acknowledging the breach, reiterated its commitment to the ceasefire agreement. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed hopes that the ceasefire marked a “new beginning” in resolving the long-standing issues that have hindered peace and stability in the region.
As of now, no further ceasefire violations have been reported, but the situation remains delicate. Both countries continue to monitor the situation, with India maintaining a strong vigil and preparing for any further escalation.
The meeting with PM Modi signals India’s readiness to address the evolving security situation and ensure the nation’s defense preparedness in light of the ongoing tensions.
