In a powerful military response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, India launched a series of precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation, conducted between 1:05 am and 1:30 am on Wednesday night, utilized advanced weaponry to eliminate targets with “clinical efficiency” and zero collateral damage, according to the Indian armed forces.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, one of the two women officers who briefed the media, emphasized the operation’s accuracy and its focus on avoiding civilian casualties. “The point of impact in each of the targets was a specific building or group of buildings. No military establishments were targeted. There have been no reports of collateral damage so far,” she stated.
Although official details about the military hardware used were not disclosed during the press briefing, sources confirmed the deployment of high-precision Scalp deep-strike cruise missiles and Hammer smart weapon systems. The French-origin Scalp missiles, integrated with Rafale fighter jets, were reportedly used for long-range targets deep within enemy territory, while the Hammer weapons were used to hit targets closer to the Line of Control (LoC).
The operation also involved the use of guided bomb kits, M777 howitzers firing Excalibur munitions, and loitering munitions — a comprehensive mix of cutting-edge systems tailored to deliver maximum impact with precision.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, the second officer at the media briefing, highlighted the intelligence-led approach of the mission. “The selection of targets for Operation Sindoor was based on credible intelligence inputs and the role of these facilities in perpetrating terror activities. The locations were carefully chosen to avoid damage to civilian installations and loss of civilian lives,” she said.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described the strikes as “measured, non-escalatory, and proportionate.” He emphasized that the military action aimed to send a clear signal in response to cross-border terror threats while avoiding a wider escalation.
Operation Sindoor underscores the Indian armed forces’ growing capabilities in executing high-precision, strategic missions using advanced munitions and platforms. It also marks a significant step in India’s policy of direct and deliberate retaliation against terror threats emerging from across the border.
