Date:

A 20-year-old law student in Gujarat is facing legal action after his car rammed into multiple vehicles and passersby at a busy intersection in Vadodara’s Karelibaug, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to several others. The student initially denied being under the influence but later admitted to consuming bhaang (cannabis) before the accident.

Driver’s Statement: Airbags Blocked Vision

The accused, Rakshit Chaurasiya, claimed that he lost control of the car after its airbags deployed. “We were going ahead of a scooty, we were turning right and there was a pothole on the road. There was a scooty and a car parked near the right turn. Our car touched the scooter and the airbags opened. After that, I couldn’t tell where the car went,” he told the police. He added that the vehicle was moving at 50-60 kmph when the accident occurred.

Accident Details and Viral Video

The crash, which took place on Thursday night, was captured on video and quickly went viral. The footage shows the car recklessly colliding with multiple vehicles before coming to a halt. The deceased was identified as Hemaliben Patel. Several others, including a 12-year-old girl, a 10-year-old boy, and two women, suffered severe injuries.

Videos from the aftermath show Chaurasiya’s friend stepping out of the car in distress, while Chaurasiya himself appeared disoriented, shouting incoherent phrases like “Another round” and “Om Namah Shivay.”

Driver’s Admission and Police Action

Chaurasiya initially claimed he had not consumed any intoxicants but later admitted to consuming bhaang. Expressing remorse, he said, “I was told that one woman has died and a few have sustained injuries. I want to meet the family of the victims, it is my fault and whatever they want should happen.”

Vadodara Joint Commissioner of Police Leena Patil confirmed that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash and has been taken into custody. Vadodara Police Commissioner Narasimha Komar stated that the accident involved multiple vehicles, including two active ones and an electric vehicle.
