Following the inauguration, Jaishankar, accompanied by top Indian officials, met National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and attended the first QUAD (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) meeting with newly appointed U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi. The QUAD meeting, held shortly after Jaishankar’s arrival, was a significant platform for India to engage with the U.S. and its allies on issues of mutual concern, including regional security in the Indo-Pacific.
Sources indicate that the U.S. administration has prioritized cementing ties with India in strategic areas such as defense, trade, technology, and economic cooperation.
