A 26-year-old man from Hyderabad, Ravi Teja, was tragically shot dead on Monday in Washington DC, in what authorities suspect was a targeted attack by assailants. The incident occurred at a gas station, where Ravi Teja was reportedly looking for a job after completing his Masters degree in the United States.
Ravi Teja, a resident of RK Puram Green Hills Colony in Hyderabad, had moved to the US in March 2022 to pursue higher education. Upon completing his studies, he was actively seeking employment in Washington DC when the fatal shooting took place.
Local law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the motive behind the attack. While the police have not yet identified the assailants, they are working diligently to uncover the details of the incident.
This tragic event adds to a growing number of cases in recent months involving Indian-origin students and academics being killed in the US. Last month, another student from Telangana, Sai Teja Nukarapu, was shot dead at a petrol pump in Chicago. Sai Teja was a 22-year-old student working part-time at the pump when armed men opened fire, although he was not on duty at the time of the shooting. In a separate incident, Dr Shriram Singh, an Indian academic who had been living in the US for almost 40 years, was shot dead by unknown assailants in Atlanta while en route to a program.
