Haryana Declares 3-Day State Mourning Following Ex-CM Om Prakash Chautala's Death

Haryana has declared a three-day state mourning from December 20 to 22 in honor of former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who passed away on Friday at the age of 89. The state government issued an official order stating that during this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across all buildings where it is regularly displayed.

The mourning period includes the cancellation of all state government functions, with no official entertainment to take place during this time. Additionally, Saturday has been declared a public holiday in all state government offices to pay respect to the late leader.

Om Prakash Chautala, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) president and a five-time Chief Minister of Haryana, died in Gurugram after suffering a cardiac arrest. Despite being rushed to a hospital, he could not be saved. A party spokesperson confirmed the news, mourning the loss of the prominent political figure.

As a mark of respect, Chautala will be given a state funeral at 3 p.m. on Friday at Teja Khera farm in his native Sirsa district. The ceremony will be attended by family members, political leaders, and supporters.

Chautala, the son of former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal, was a key figure in Haryana politics for decades. He led the state multiple times, shaping the political landscape of Haryana through his leadership of the INLD. His death has left a void in the state’s political arena.

The state mourning period will be observed across Haryana, with residents and officials coming together to pay their respects to the late political leader.
