Jammu and Kashmir Member of Parliament (MP) Engineer Rashid has sought interim bail from a Delhi court in connection with a terror-funding case to attend the ongoing Parliament session. Rashid, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail, filed a plea before Principal District and Sessions Judge Vimal Kumar Yadav, requesting temporary reprieve so he can fulfill his duties as an elected representative.
During a virtual appearance from jail, Rashid expressed his desire to attend Parliament, stating, “I have been elected by my people. I was not allowed to attend the last session. With folded hands, I request you that I may be granted interim bail.” The plea was supported by his legal counsel, who emphasized Rashid’s constitutional right to attend Parliament and carry out his responsibilities.
The court, after hearing Rashid’s plea, asked the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to file its response to the application by November 27. Additionally, both the defense and the NIA mutually agreed that the matter should remain with the current court rather than being transferred to another.
Rashid, a prominent political figure in Jammu and Kashmir, has been facing charges related to terror funding, which led to his incarceration. This request for interim bail is part of his ongoing efforts to ensure his participation in the Parliament’s legislative process.
The court will hear further arguments from both sides on November 27 before making a decision on granting interim bail to Engineer Rashid.
