Army Officer Killed, Three Soldiers Injured in Encounter with Terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir

An Indian Army officer was killed, and three soldiers were injured in a gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Saturday. The army’s 16 Corps confirmed that Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar, serving with the 2 Para (SF) unit, was killed in action during a joint anti-terror operation in Kishtwar’s Bhart Ridge area.

The encounter is part of an intensified counter-terror campaign following the recent killings of two Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in the region. Authorities launched a large-scale search operation on Thursday evening across the forested areas of Kuntwara and Keshwan after the bodies of VDGs Nazir Ahmad and Kuldeep Kumar were found, having been reportedly kidnapped and killed by terrorists.

The latest clash began around 11 a.m. when combined search teams of the army and local police engaged with terrorists hiding in the dense forest near the VDG killings. The operation is ongoing, with security forces scouring the area to neutralize any remaining threats.

This tragic incident underscores the heightened security concerns in the region, where security forces continue to tackle militancy through coordinated operations aimed at protecting local communities and restoring stability.
