“Abandoned Newborn Survives Fall from Bridge, Overcomes 50 Injuries and Animal Bites”

Date:

In a shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur district, a newborn baby boy, who suffered at least 50 wounds after being thrown off a bridge by his parents, has made a miraculous recovery. Discovered stuck on a tree shortly after the fall, the infant was rushed to a hospital in Kanpur, where he received urgent medical care.

The child, named Krishna by the hospital staff in honor of Janmashtami, was only seven days old when he was found on August 26. According to Dr. Sanjay Kala, the principal of Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital (Hallett Hospital), the baby was referred from Hamirpur district hospital in critical condition, covered in wounds and suffering from a severe animal bite on his back.

“The baby was thrown off a bridge in Rath, and fortunately, he got stuck on a large tree, which likely saved his life,” Dr. Kala explained. “Upon arrival, he had extensive injuries from the fall and appeared to have been bitten by crows and possibly other animals. His condition was alarming, and it was uncertain if he would survive.”

During his two-month stay at the hospital, Krishna’s presence profoundly impacted the medical staff. Nurses would sing lullabies to him from a distance, unable to hold him due to his numerous wounds. “His cries of pain would bring tears to our eyes, and we tried to soothe him in any way we could,” shared a nurse from the neonatal ICU.

Krishna’s treatment was lengthy and complicated, yet it concluded successfully, with the staff emotionally attached to the infant. On October 24, he was discharged from the hospital and handed over to the police and child welfare committee, marking a bittersweet farewell.

“When he was leaving, there were tears in everyone’s eyes. We all felt a deep connection to him, almost as if he were our own child,” Dr. Kala remarked. “It is unimaginable how his parents could abandon him in such a cruel way. If they didn’t want him, they could have left him at a hospital or a temple, where he would have been safe.”

Nurse Lakshmi reflected on Krishna’s journey: “After about 10-15 days, when he began to heal, we longed to hold him. Unfortunately, just as we could finally do so, it was time for him to leave. We are relieved that he has fully recovered and wish him a bright future.”

This distressing case has not only highlighted the resilience of a vulnerable life but also raised significant concerns about child welfare and the responsibilities of parents towards their offspring. The community continues to grapple with the emotional ramifications of this tragic event, hoping for better futures for all children in similar situations.
