“KT Rama Rao Visits Women’s Panel to Apologize; Members Tie Rakhi Sparking Controversy”

Date:

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao (KTR) recently appeared before the Telangana Women’s Commission in response to a summons related to his controversial remarks about women. During his visit, several members of the commission tied rakhi to KTR, an act that has ignited a new controversy.

The incident occurred following KTR’s public apology for his remarks about women using the state’s free bus travel scheme. His comments, made during an address to party workers on August 15, were criticized for being inappropriate. KTR had suggested that women using the scheme could “do break dances” or engage in other activities like knitting while on the bus, as long as the buses remained safe. This statement was met with widespread condemnation from women’s rights activists, political opponents, and the public.

The Women’s Commission has now issued a notice to its members involved in the rakhi-tying ceremony. Chairperson Sharada Nerella criticized the act as “inappropriate,” stating that it compromised the commission’s neutrality and dignity. In her post, Nerella emphasized that such conduct was unacceptable and directed the Secretary of the Commission to take stringent disciplinary action against the members.

KTR, in his apology, expressed regret for his remarks and acknowledged that they were inappropriate for someone in his leadership position. He clarified that his comments were not intended to offend and apologized if they had caused any distress.

The controversy has further escalated tensions surrounding KTR’s remarks and has highlighted concerns about the conduct of public figures and institutions in handling sensitive issues related to women’s rights and respect.
